A Passion for Lifelong Learning

I am an instructional designer, librarian, writer, speaker, and connector, dedicated to empowering organizations and communities through information, instruction, and empathy.

Since I was eight years old, my neighborhood New Holly Library (in South Seattle) felt like a second home. Visiting my local library became a regular habit, if not a daily occurrence, as I voraciously devoured countless books to satisfy my hunger for knowledge. Little did I know that this early passion would lead me to work in libraries for 15 years, progressing from paraprofessional to professional roles, and spanning from public to college libraries, before ultimately seeking to return to public libraries. Throughout this journey, one consistent theme has been my unwavering commitment to lifelong learning and the desire to pass on the invaluable teachings, mentorship, and guidance I have received from numerous exceptional teachers and library professionals.

My Journey to Instructional Design

While studying philosophy as my major, I honed my critical thinking skills and cultivated a deliberate approach, particularly in examining my own biases. My librarian training equipped me with the expertise to elevate information literacy, not only in utilizing and sharing information but also in teaching information literacy as a vital skill. Consequently, I gravitated towards a teaching role as an instruction librarian. More recently, I have expanded my skill set to include instructional design, as I continue to explore innovative approaches to education within a rapidly evolving landscape that incorporates new media, artificial intelligence, and micro-learning.

My areas of expertise include technical training, project and program management, public as well as academic libraries, and information and media literacy (IML).
